One of the lines which I get the most queries about from persons viewing this site is that of the descendants of John Sparks and Sarah Shores and also that of one of their sons Levi Sparks and his wife Sarah Lyon.  One of the descendants of Levi is Sinay Sparks, who married Ira Ison, my great grand uncle on my mother's side.  Then there is also a Grand Aunt, Louisa Jane Creech, who married George Washington Sparks of this line.  My mother's mother was Annie Creech, Louisa Jane's sister.

The Sparkses, Isons and Creeches all settled in the Lawrence, Elliot, Carter, Johnson County area in Eastern Kentucky.  Please note that not all the branches in this tree are documented by me.  Some of the data has been submitted by others and accepted by me as such.

The above Solomon Sparks was a son of Joseph Sparks and his wife Mary.  Joseph was the son of  William Sparks, Sr. (1640-1709, our English imigrant ancestor.) and his wife Mary.  Joseph was also a brother to William Sparks, Jr., (born about 1674) and his wife Margaret Ann Sample.  This was the continuation of my main Sparks line through their son, William Sample Sparks.

 John Sparks, Revolutionary War soldier, was the  2nd born son of Solomon & Sarah Sparks,& grandson of Joseph Sparks & wife Mary. Joseph was the son of William Sparks ( Sr.) & Margaret Ann Sample. William, (reportedly the son of Thomas & Joanne Davis Sparks of Fareham Parish, Hampshire Co., England),  came either with or shortly before his brother John in 1662 to Maryland. Both came to America supposedly after being released from Newgate Prison for religious sedition against the Crown. Tradition has it that the Sparkses were Roman Catholics who refused to acknowledge the relatively  new Church of England.

John Sparks was born in Rowan Co., N.C., & died in Wilkes Co. of the same state.  He appeared before the Court of Pleas on October 30th, 1832 to file for a pension based on that service.  John Sparks served as a soldier, spy & scout under Captain Jessee Walton against a Torie & Indian uprising, & Colonel Benjamin Herndon against British Commander Cornwallis.

John and Sarah's sons Levi, George & Robert migrated to Lawrence Co., Kentucky in 1820.  Many of Eastern Kentucky Sparkses spring from their lineage.
